Event description
BLACKOUT – When the city comes to a standstill. And you get it going again.
What happens when a city plunges into digital darkness in a matter of seconds? Traffic lights stop working, public transport comes to a halt, autonomous vehicles lose their bearings, and emergency services face chaos. Mobility Hackathon 2026: Blackout is a challenge for all students who want to try to solve situations where seconds, creativity, and smart technology are crucial.
Urban mobility is a fragile, complex ecosystem. Your task will be to come up with an innovation that can keep the city moving even when everything else fails.
What are we addressing this year?
This year’s hackathon focuses on the impacts of digital breakdowns – from infrastructure failures to complete blackouts. Teams will focus on three main topics:
1. Emergency Services / Crisis Management
How to effectively coordinate emergency services during a digital infrastructure collapse?
2. Blackout / Digital Collapse
How can we ensure public transport, traffic management, and public information when technology fails?
3. Cybersecurity
How can we protect key parts of urban mobility from attacks and outages?
Who is the hackathon for?
For all students. All you need is a desire to solve real problems and push the boundaries of what is possible in the city.
This year’s edition is being organized in cooperation with the SPARROW project, which brings experience from real crisis situations and technological simulations.
Why register?
Real-world assignments in the areas of mobility, crisis management, and cybersecurity.
Become part of a team that can keep the city moving even when everything else comes to a halt.
