Event description
What are emotions, how do they influence our behavior, and why do some people manage them better than others? This lecture by social psychologist Iva Poláčková Šolcová will focus on emotions, their regulation, and the psychology of resilience. You’ll learn how we cope with crises, stress, and uncertainty, and how psychological processes differ across cultures and societies.
Iva Poláčková Šolcová works at the Institute of Psychology of the Czech Academy of Sciences. As part of the national project “The Czech Path to Space,” she researches life under extreme conditions of isolation and confinement, such as on the International Space Station or in Antarctica. She also helped prepare Czech ESA astronaut Aleš Svoboda to cope with extreme stress.
The lecture is part of the “Schrödinger’s Lens” series, which brings specialized topics to an intimate setting and emphasizes personal interaction, open discussion, and direct contact with the speakers.
